Dr. Ben Quist talks about how to perform the back extension and abdominal crunch on a fixed machine. He emphasizes that these machines are NOT his favorite, but if you are to do them, he wants you to be able to do them correctly!
Back Extension Key Points:
- Only lean back as far as you can with good form (back straight and abs engaged). If you experience lower back pain, decrease your range of motion or avoid this exercise altogether.
Abdominal Crunch Key Points:
-Do not add too much weight because when the abdominal crunch machine is too heavy, your tendency is to use momentum to move it. If you do so, then you will not target the right muscles.
- Avoid jerking and focus on performing one continuous and fluid movement.
- Do not hunch over the machine while performing the exercise and be aware of your posture. If not, it will defeat the purpose of using the machine.
